God’s idea of supply and demand

Hands_of_God_and_Adam
I want to be right
to be in the know
You offer humility
and answering questions slow
I want dogmas
to hold on to
a system of belief
You offer your hand
to hold on to
to lead through joy & grief
I want my life to be
comfortable and soothing
Your offer’s real relationship
a life worth living

I’d been dead for so long
I didn’t know if I was
fit to live anymore

I’d forgotten how to laugh
forgotten how to play
inside me a child had died away

Those doctors gave me up
said I was a useless
good-for-nothing-dead-man

They left me to die
in a rubbish pit;
sewer’s terminal stop

But you climbed down to me
cleaned my dirt off
and saved me from myself

Why me? I don’t deserve it
But you just say
“That’s grace, accept it”

Purity

it’s old-fashioned; we laugh in derision
it’s not real; we believe disappointedly
it’s overrated; we proclaim in disenchantment
it’s too difficult; we sigh in disillusion

it’s unnatural; we assure ourselves
who cares?; we fool ourselves
it’s just an illusion; we delude ourselves
I never wanted it anyway; we console ourselves

had we but listened
to our dulled consciences
we wouldn’t have been
so eager to throw it away
